Just not feelin' it

Posted at 01:20 AM on Thursday, December 14, 2006

Hey all - just a quick update as to why there is no comic today. Nothing major, nothing life threatening - just a case of no muse, is all. It passes - I'll get it back tomorrow, I'm sure.

Though I suppose I can take a quick moment and explain the circumstances surrounding Wednesday's strip. Before I begin, you should know that the comic is almost entirely true.

So, I decided yesterday that, come hell or high water, I was GOING to get myself another damned Wii Remote. Wii Sports is boring as hell one-player, and it would nice if Liz and I could play the damn system together. So my first call is Target. I got the system there, so I immediately think of them when it comes to Wii stuff. For some reason. Anyway, the guy tells me (as he has for weeks) that they don't have any, and they come in fairly sporadically. I called another target in the area (we have three) and they said they expected a shipment on the 17th. Okay, fine. After calling about 6 or 7 different places, I finally find ONE remote available at a GameCrazy down in Daly City. I hop in my car and high-tail it down there, and managed to snatch it up before anyone else - no nunchuk, though. That's fine... I can look for it later.

So we headed over to the Serramonte Target, since it was right there and we had some other errands to run. We went over to the games section and decided "eh, what the hell - let's buy Monkeyball." As we're waiting in line, we hear one of the employees say something about getting a remote and a nunchuk. What's this now? We inquire, and say we'd like a Nunchuk as well if they have them, and about 10 minutes later the guy comes back with a box that is literally FILLED with Wii controllers. We're talking probably 50 remotes and 25 nunchuks or so. That might be a low guess - the thing was piled high with them. We make our purchase and head home.

Now, we're only about 15 minutes away from the Target, and when we get home, JUST to see what they'd say, I call up that very same Target and ask to speak to the electronics department. I ask if they have any controllers for the Wii in stock, and the guy very matter-of-factly says "Nope." I didn't call him on it - I just said "reeeeeaallly...." and hung up, but good LORD. I've heard today that perhaps they weren't actually supposed to sell them until the 17th, maybe because of a newspaper ad or something, but still. It's not like they haven't hit their release date yet - last I checked, the system and its accessories were released LAST month. Deliberately sitting on stock THAT YOU COULD BE SELLING is retarded in ways I cannot even begin to express.

And that's all for storytime, kiddos. It's past your bedtime.
