A Treatise on Comic Numbering
Posted at 03:05 PM on Wednesday, January 9, 2008
I finally sat down today, and went through every single comic image file found on the server... close to 2000 of them. See, I've been numbering my comic files after the date, but I only instituted that numbering system AFTER a certain date - and by that point, I had some filler, some guest strips, and some other stuff that just didn't belong. So, I deleted all that stuff, and got a final count.
Comic 1980 (tomorrow's strip) is ACTUALLY comic 1908. That means that over the course of 8 years, there have been 72 guest strips, filler strips, or other things that aren't officially "Real Life Comics". As disheartening as it is to think that I was 20 strips away from 2000, and I am now 92 strips away, it's still very, very nice to know the ACTUAL count.
Additional bit of intrigue - comic 1000? It was actually number 977. The REAL "1000th Strip" occurred quietly on September 18, 2003. *Shrug* At least I know for the future. :)
