Dave: Now, in compiling this list, there are a few factors to take into account. One, we are talking about games, not franchises.

Dave: For instance, I would say “The Legend of Zelda”, “A Link to the Past” and “Ocarina of Time” are all must-plays, but Zelda 2 can be skipped.
Greg: Really? But Zelda 2 was cool in its own crazy sort of way!
Dave: Yes, but it doesn’t have the same kind of “rock the gaming world” quality as the other ones.

Dave: Speaking of which, another thing we have to take into account is that on occasion, cultural significance trumps game quality. The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” game for the N.E.S. was awful, but I defy you to find a kid in the ‘80s who didn’t play the hell out of it.

Greg: Is that why you’ve put “Superman 64” on the list?
Dave: No, that’s there simply because I hate you.
Greg: Well, as long as you had a reason.
