So, for starters, I'm PROBABLY going to have STO comics pretty much this entire week, unless I run out of material. So brace yourselves for that. :)

Secondly, a number of people have asked my handle on STO, so we could perchance team up. Its a tough one here, and may well throw you for a loop... "GregDean". Seriously. My character changes it up a bit, though... his name is "Greg Dean". With a SPACE.

Yeah, I know. It's far from original... but you have to understand something about me and Star Trek. We go way, way back. And even though I've worshipped the ground Captains Kirk and Picard walked on, I was never one of those kids who dreamed of playing AS them... I dreamed of being in Starfleet. So in my mind, why would I want to play as someone OTHER than myself? I'm Lieutenant Greg Dean, Captain of the U.S.S. Batavia (Name change pending... I can't figure out where to change it), at your service. If you need help killin' Klingon scum, I'm your man.

Anyway, add me to your friends list if you'd like. I might consider starting a fleet at some point, but for now, I'm just focused on reaching Lieutenant Commander so I can get my hands on the Constitution-Class Refit. :) If nothing else, it'll just make my current "Wrath of Khan"-era uniform more appropriate.

Sorry guys... I'm kind of a slave to my mood, and events of the day have just sort of soured me for this evening. Nothing I can talk about publicly or anything, but suffice to say, I've not really been in a comicking mood tonight. :/

Fear not, though. I'm a malleable guy. Sleep is the healer of all wounds, in my experience. I'll be back and entertaining you with mediocrity first thing tomorrow - I promise! (Srsly... it's not as serious as it sounds. I'm just in a foul mood, and that's no time to comick. For reals.)

First off, let me say that the opinions I expressed via Dave's mouth are neither my own, nor Dave's. It is the opinion of some people out there, of course, that recycling is some load of crap and doesn't impact anything. I am not one of those people. Christ, I work for a company that aids in exam prep for sustainable green building... I couldn't agree with you MORE that recycling is important. I just needed to get from point A to point B, and to make that work, I had to have Dave take up a contrary position to Greg. The point of this comic wasn't to denounce recycling - it was to imply that Greg cared more about the fact that the glass bottle could be used as a future beer receptacle than he did about recycling it. When Greg says "Screw recycling", it's not meant to imply that he doesn't recycle, or doesn't care about recycling... it's more of just emphasizing that it's less important to him than the alternative.

The opinions expressed in the comic are not always my own. Occasionally, I will have a character express a contrary viewpoint, just so that I can arrive at a desired punchline. If I had to keep my characters within my own very limited point of view, it wouldn't make for an interesting read... everyone would be the same person. Sometimes the whole point of character-based writing is to write from a perspective you don't agree with. Now, the real Dave probably recycles just like the rest of us... but I've enjoyed writing Comic Dave as a contrarian bastard, so to me, it followed that he would take issue with being reprimanded for recycling. Even that was difficult, because I had very little to form an anti-recycling argument besides an old episode of a TV show I saw many years ago, so I just went with that.

More than anything in the world, I hate having to explain punchlines. (That's not true, actually. I hate BADGERS more than anything in the world. Stupid little critters.) That said, this is more of explaining the ROAD to a punchline, so I think it's okay in this instance. :) It should, at the very least, give you a little insight into what goes on in my head when I have to come up with a new comic idea every day. But just remember... not everything my characters say reflect my own viewpoints.

This is a public message to all of you who feel the need to e-mail or tweet to me whenever you see my character talking on the phone in the car: Read this.

This is EXACTLY what I have been saying for god knows how long, and it's nice that the data finally backs me the hell UP. You are JUST as dangerous with your stupid-looking, uncomfortable and impossible to hear bluetooth headset as I am using the phone in its intended fashion. So seriously. Quit acting like I'm the antichrist because I refuse to spend money on something I find uncomfortable and pointless. Yes, I realize it's still illegal anyway. No, I don't think this is going to cause them to repeal bans on cell phone use - it's a new revenue stream, after all. But I still think the law is stupid, and that's that. So there. THBBBBT.

It passed with very little live notice, but we did our first OFFICIAL live Two Drink Minimum show last Sunday. You can get it via podcast now if you missed it, (or see it on Ustream, since we broadcast it there as well) but just so you know, we DO have an official broadcast time now: EVERY Sunday from 7 PM to 9 PM Pacific time. (That's GMT-8 for those keeping score) I say this so you can note it down in whatever note taking software you have, such that you can LISTEN to us live in the future! We do our own little thing for the most part, but a good portion of our show is audience interaction. We need you guys to call in to make it work.
