Title: 1974

This is one of those times when I wish I knew more about cars than I do – I mean, I do my best to remember what I learn, sure. But I’ve never had to deal with a clutch before. I don’t even know WHERE the clutch is in my damned engine. I keep looking through VWVortex to see if I can find out how to check the transmission fluid (I figured a slow leak in the system COULD have cause these issues) and all the references to it refer to a hex nut that can be found on X side of the assembly – but nothing telling me where the assembly is. I’d love to have a reference manual, but they cost EIGHTY freaking bucks, and if the fluid ISN’T the problem, (which it probably isn’t) I’d just be out eighty bucks, and still have to get the clutch fixed.

Which, it turns out, is going to be around $1100, because I have the 1.8L engine, not the 1.6L. If I had the smaller engine, it would be $450. It really makes me wish I knew the first thing about repairing cars, because I’d love to just jack the car up and do the work myself to save the money. But my auto knowledge extends to changing oil, filters, and headlights. I don’t even know how to check the damned spark plugs if I had to.

Why did I have to pick COMPUTERS to be geeky about?
