Mae: I figure the best way to sanitize the, um… “water”, is to boil it. That should kill off the bacteria while leaving everything else intact, I think.
Dave: Okay…. This is legit kinda gross, actually.

Mae: Well, I mean… all it REALLY comes into contact with is the smoke, and the only danger is from bacteria, which boiling kills. Plus we’re going to filter it before we use it.
Mae: And I mean, the whole process of brewing involves adding in a bacteria that eats sugar and farts carbon dioxide and alcohol. Grossness sorta comes with the territory.
