Well, ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for a little story time. Time to bring you up to speed on what’s been goin’ on in the wild world of Greg.

So, this time last year, Liz and I were looking into moving to the Seattle area, get a new start, all that jazz. Then, things fell through. Jobs didn’t pan out. Eh, it happens, I wasn’t too worried about it. Then Liz had an offer of an internship in El Dorado Hills, and we said “Ah, hell with it. We’ll stay in Sacramento.” Come to find out, that didn’t pan out either, but we weren’t too worried about it. I had plans of maybe trying to make the comic a full-time job, but when I sat down and crunched the numbers, it just didn’t seem feasable. Meh. It’s all good. I’m zen about the whole thing.

Then, a few months ago, something my Uncle Reid said stuck in my head – he mentioned that he was looking into going to culinary school. And as I was driving back from their house, it kinda nagged at me. And then I mentioned to liz that he was going, and she said “Hey, why don’t YOU go to culinary school?”

Now, this sounds odd to most of you, I’m sure. After all, I made a big deal of how much I love Ramen. And I still do. But believe it or not, I cook dinner every night. And I get creative – and most of all, I ENJOY cooking. I watch Food network programming like you wouldn’t believe. (Alton Brown is my personal hero) So, over time, I just began getting more and more interested in cooking, and when Liz said it, I just kinda switched over – “Hey! I could do that!”

A little more background – I have, for the past 6 years since graduating high school, DREADED the idea of college. Mostly because I never had a career aspiration. I had these little dreams of cartooning full-time, but I can’t pay the bills that way. I need security – I need a career where I know I can get a job if need be. And it’s always been a sticking point for me, because I’ve never liked any of the careers I envisioned. UNTIL, that is, the thought of Culinary School came up.

Fast forward to, well, TODAY, and I am enrolled at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. Still working on getting the school loan stuff nailed down, but I’m in the works. We did research, and the CCA is one of the top culinary schools in the country, with an incredible placement rating, and comes highly recommended.

BUT, it’s in San Francisco. So we realized we were going to have to move. We’ve done it before, we can do it again, I figure. And not 20 minutes ago, Liz called to tell me she got a job in Belmont. (south of San Fran) And believe it or not, I have a job interview with a company in San Francisco TOMORROW. I’m hoping that goes well – it’s a part-time job, but it should pay the bills. We hope.

One of the things this means, though, is that we need to come up with a decently sized sum of money in a relatively short time period. I’m going to try to get a RLSG gift put together, but I’m so notoriously slow with those things. I don’t even really have an idea for one yet. But Liz mentioned something, so I figure I could toss this out there.

In an effort to raise some fundage, anyone who donates $25 or more will recieve a holiday card from Me and Liz, personally addressed to you, and I’ll even do a sketch inside each one. (YES with pen. I can draw without a computer, you know.) I’m gonna design the actual card in the next month or so, but it will be a special one-time only thing. I’ll also instantly add anyone in this category to the RLSG when I get that up. (Be sure to include your mailing address when you donate – we’ll use this when we send out the card!)

Anyone who knows me will tell you – I hate flat-out asking for donations. I really, REALLY do. And I patently refuse to do it without offering something back to you. But I’m up against a wall at the moment – when you just barely make enough to get by, it’s pretty tough to get together enough to do something like move to a new city.

So, if you can, help us out. To donate, click on the “Not Hungry, just Broke” image above and follow the instructions from there. And thanks in advance.

I should probably add – though this will cause a change in my schedule, going to school for the first time since starting the comic and whatnot, I’m going to do my best to keep things rollin’ along 5 days a week. That’s my commitment to you. I don’t intend to let a little thing like school kick my ass. :)
